Past events
Prior to Finlandia Circular, several meetings and activities focused on the circular economy and sustainable mining had already taken place, driven by Team Finland Latin America. These events were part of the global efforts of the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF). They fostered exchange on responsible mining, resource efficiency, and circular value chains in Peru and Brazil, one of the region's leading centers for sustainability cooperation.
These initiatives have strengthened ties between Finnish and Latin American institutions, laying the foundation for a long-term collaboration that Finlandia Circular continues to consolidate throughout Latin America.

WCEF 2025: Finland Day - Acceleration Sessions
Finland Day brought together three interconnected sessions in a single day dedicated to accelerating the transition to a circular economy. Organized by Business Finland, Mining Finland, IBRAHIM, and partners such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the EU CERC initiative, the event explored concrete opportunities for international cooperation in circular mining, green finance, and European regulation.
This space showcased Finland's leadership in sustainable innovation and its commitment to connecting technological solutions, public policies, and global partnerships to drive a more circular future.
Circular Economy in Mining: Peru and Finland Building a Sustainable Mining Strategy Together
Held in December 2024 in Lima, this meeting took place within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Peruvian Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) and the Finnish Ministry of the Environment, which establishes five years of cooperation in the areas of circular economy, bioeconomy, biodiversity, and climate change through training, knowledge sharing, networking, and project support. The event applied this broad framework to the mining sector, presenting opportunities for circular waste management, water and energy efficiency, and public-private synergies to accelerate more sustainable mining.

The event included representatives from the mining sector, such as Cerro Verde, Minsur, and Minera Poderosa, as well as Finnish companies such as Metso, Nokia, and AFRY.
